Why Wind Energy is not currently more common in the world?
Wind power has so many benefits and advantages, so why is it only 3% of the power we are making.
For some reason, people say that the wind turbines look ugly, or are making annoying noises. But the thing is, looking ugly and making noises is far better than the harmful things that coal energy do to our environment. One of the main reason is that the Wind farms are most likely to be adversely affected by birds and bats, who are susceptible to things such as disturbance, habitat loss and collisions. There had been a high number of high profile wind farms that have been delayed or cancelled due to environmental concerns. For example, wind power projects were cancelled in Washington, USA – Radar Ridge due to concerns about the marbled murrelet seabird, Otago, New Zealand, Hayes project was cancelled following drawn out opposition and legal proceedings on environmental grounds. Another reason is that wind is not completely reliable; it’s not consistent so you’re not always guaranteed electricity. Despite this, the usage of wind power actually has been going up over the years so in the future, we may completely stop using fossil fuels and completely rely on renewable energy.
